What kind of memory serves
what kind of world is it
That comes headlong at you
then swerves at the last possible second?
It's this one
And it's easy to slow down
And it's easy to slow down
And it's easy to just lie out by the blue pools
In the squinting sun and slow down
And it's easy to slow down
And in situations like these
it's sometimes useful to
Think of life as one long continuous evening
That never turns into night
Hey hey
with thanks to heather and dot for finally tipping me over into the long sinking desert valley highway that leads into deeply appreciating the mountain goats
that highway, by the way, is I-15, and it turns an elbow over the mountains and glides down into las vegas, passing that town with the rickety old rollercoaster whose name i can never remember, which is primm
if you get the chance, you should get a fast bike, and bivouac gear in the saddlebags, and ride this road some early spring afternoon
you should let the horizon and the sky and the vast floor of the desert into your head through your full face visor, and you should let the foolish lights of the long, slow strip slide through you and over you with no resistance
you should let the great night stars in all of their terrifying presence hang over you, and the stark blue imprint of the flat desert scrub in the moonlight strike your rods
you should let it all out, all of the crazy inside you, and let the night take you for a time
because everything will be fine
